Dr. James Palmer's journey began under extraordinary circumstances. He was born in Vietnam and was one of the fortunate children to be part of Operation Babylift, a mass evacuation of children from South Vietnam to the United States at the end of the Vietnam War. Adopted by a loving American family, James grew up with a deep appreciation for the opportunities and support that came his way.
Educational Background
James excelled academically, driven by a determination to make the most of his new life. He pursued higher education with a focus on educational leadership, curriculum, graduating from Macalester College (B.A.), University of Minnesota (M.Ed.), and University of St. Thomas (Ed.D.) with honors. His educational experiences equipped him with a robust foundation in leadership, critical thinking, and community service. James was a teacher for over 20 years in inner-city public schools.
Golfing Background
James discovered his passion for golf during his high school years. His talent for the sport quickly became evident, and he dedicated countless hours to honing his skills. He played competitively throughout college, earning accolades and recognition for his performance on the golf course. He was a talent scout and coach at IMG Academy, the Director of Golf at Combine Academy, and coached at two universities and led them to Nationals. The teams were ranked #1 and #5 in the country. This passion for golf became more than just a hobby; it was a way to connect with others, find peace, and build character.
Believe in Your Swing Foundation
Leveraging his personal and professional experiences, James founded the "Believe in Your Swing Foundation." The nonprofit aims to empower youth, particularly those from underserved communities, by introducing them to golf. Through the foundation, James provides not only golf training but also mentorship, life skills development, and educational support, helping young people build confidence and resilience.
James Palmer's life story is a testament to the transformative power of opportunity, education, and sport. His dedication to giving back to the community and helping others find their swing in life is at the heart of his foundation's mission.
